Reflections on the Appeal of Vermont
The fact that Vermont offers a high quality of life seems to be undisputed. I have lived here all my life with the exception of time spent away at school and building my career for a few years in Albany, New York until my husband and I found a way to transfer our family and our careers back to Vermont. Since I was a little girl, I have been told that living in Vermont is a trade off, a choice of quality of life over economic maximization. Growing up in southern Vermont, I was surrounded and nurtured by folks including my parents who chose to live in Vermont and find a creative way to make a living rather than live in an urban area where financial security was more easily achieved through traditional means. This is my perspective on Vermont - an idyllic place to live and work if you are creative and hard-working and you don't want to live the corporate life. I don't think much has changed in this regard in the past 40 years.
